In addition to his professional credentials, Dr David Butcher has a strong academic background. He began his studies in Australia in fine art (Claremont School of Art) and art history (University of Western Australia and Australian National University). He continued his post-graduate studies in art history in France (Sorbonne University) where he obtained a doctorate with honours.

In Australia, David worked as a conservator in state and national institutions (Art Gallery of Western Australia, National Gallery of Australia) and in private practice before moving to France.

Since 1989, Dr Butcher has worked as an art consultant in Paris, developing a wide range of contacts with art galleries/dealers, specialists, auction houses, museums and private collectors. In 2001, he created Paris Art Consulting in order to respond to a growing need for a comprehensive approach to art consulting within his international clientele.

Bilingual (English/French), Dr Butcher draws on his polyvalent background and experience in fine art, art history, conservation and the art market to provide a personalised and integrated response to the needs of his largely English-speaking clientele.

While having a broad art historical knowledge, David specialises in the Modern Period (1850-1950) with a particular interest in neo-impressionism, Pont-Aven School, Nabis, fauvism, cubism and School of Paris.
